this animation is a graphic representation of my research on Kiribati and their policies regarding retreat in the face of climate change. relocation is often defined as method which provides the "greatest protection from flooding" yet many populations remain physically and psychologically locked into their home. is retreat the only option? my research explores ideas of "migration with dignity", place attachment, the idea of defeat, and other effects that might prohibit relocation as the solution.
